Apple Watch Series 10: this change would lead to longer battery life

The Apple Watch Series 10 will feature a new, more energy-efficient OLED display. This feature would enable Apple's new connected watch to offer slightly more generous battery life than in the past... without compromising display quality.

Apple Watch Series 10

Apple could slightly change the screen of its Apple Watch Series 10... to improve its autonomy. Without switching to a MicroLED panel (currently expected in vain on the Apple Watch Ultra), the Cupertino giant's next connected watch would adopt a new OLED screen technology whose main feature would be greater energy efficiency.

According to The Elec, Apple's Watch Series 10 will feature a new OLED panel combining TFT (thin-film transistor) and LTPO (low-temperature polycrystalline oxide) technologies. However, this display would not completely dispense with the LTPS technology used previously. However, the latter would be limited to managing the non-visible parts of the screen.

A change that could be extended to the iPhone in the future

Relatively complex, this new technology could become essential to the market in the future. In fact, it is expected to spread rapidly to all iPhones. OLED LTPO TFT is expected in parallel on the iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max, and could be incorporated into all iPhone 17 and 17 Pro models next year, to further improve battery life.

In any case, this would be a logical follow-up, as Apple has often "launched" new display technologies on its Apple Watch before extending them to more products later on. This was the case, for example, with the "classic" OLED LTPO technology first introduced on the Apple Watch, then on the iPhone 14 Pro in 2022 to offer "Always on" mode.

Finally, it's worth noting that while The Elec sometimes makes mistakes in its predictions about Apple products, the Taiwanese media outlet is often right about the integration of new technologies into them... thanks in particular to its close observation of the supply chain. The integration of this new OLED LTPO TFT technology into the Apple Watch Series 10 therefore has a good chance of being true.
