Soldiers training in Romania may be ‘called to act’ – defence minister

Nuno Melo, Portugal’s minister of defence told the soldiers at the Romanian base of Caracal today that they are not on this NATO mission just to train, but to act if circumstances require it. Addressing the 225 soldiers who are part of NATO missions in Romania, commanded by Lieutenant Colonel Simão Sousa, Nuno Melo stressed that this National Force “is the first line of defence” for freedoms and reaffirmed Portugal’s commitment to NATO.
